GVHBA Renovates Home Away from Home for Easter Seals’ Families

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2018 and is proud of its history of building and supporting communities across the country. Together with the Renovation & Supplier’s Council, the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA) contributed to this history through its renovation of the Easter Seals House 3rd Floor Lounge.

The Easter Seals House offers a home away from home for families with sick children who require specialized medical treatments. Often, a basic hotel room is not an affordable option during their stays. The House is open 365 days a year and as a result, experiences a lot of wear-and-tear. Each year the house provides 30,000 beds to families in need. Without subsidy from the government, Easter Seals House relies on the generous support of organizations like the GVHBA and its members to help offset the operational and maintenance costs associated with this facility.

The 3rd Floor Lounge is a space where families go after a long, challenging and stressful day at the hospital; a common area for families to connect and offer comfort and support for one another.

As part of its commitment to give back to the communities where members do business, GVHBA looked to its members for donations of product, service and monetary funds to renovate this lounge so it better services the families who use it every day. GVHBA and its members raised $82,425 for the renovations which included everything from new flooring, appliances, cabinets, furniture, and paint.

On August 24, 2018, GVHBA members gathered at the Easter Seals House to celebrate the official ribbon cutting & unveiling of the renovated lounge.
